Experience
I was brought up with my older brother’s German Shepherds; he bred and showed them and I could not wait for the day I could have one of my own. In 1981, I joined IDTC with a 6 month old Labrador x rescue who had already had 3 homes. He was not an easy dog but I soon got hooked on training and a few years later I finally got my 1st GSD called Kate. Over 38 years, I had a further 4 GSDs and 3 Border Collies. I love working/ herding breeds – dogs who want to please and work with you. There is something very special about the bond between handler and dog working as a team.
I’m proud to say all 9 of my dogs have achieved the KC Gold Good Citizen award or the equivalent IDTC award plus many wins in obedience, breed and I even dabbled in agility in the early years! I’ve represented Guernsey at Crufts – the greatest dog show in the world!
I became an assistant trainer in 1987 and a full trainer 2 years later. Presently, I am IDTC Head Trainer and have been on and off for more years than I care to remember! I enjoy teaching owners from puppy stage through to advanced level to bond with their dogs and build a lifetime relationship like no other.
