The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme promotes socially acceptable dogs and responsible dog owners. This non-competitive Scheme was introduced in 1992 and is open to all dogs and you do not have to be a member of the Island Dog Training Club to take part in an assessment*.
The Scheme has been designed to assess the handler’s ability to control and generally care for their dog in every-day situations.
There are four levels: Puppy (which is for dogs aged up to 12 months of age), followed by Bronze, Silver and Gold. The exercises in these assessments are based on things you do every-day with your dog, such as walking along the road, getting in and out of the car, greeting a stranger, food manners, coming when called etc.
We have several Kennel Club qualified assessors in the Club and an ongoing programme of training and assessments throughout the year. Dates for Bronze, Silver and Gold assessments will be posted on the website, sign up on our Contact page for free email updates.
